  • Owl bass / Chris Seldon Guitars - Ranger 32

Building solid body instrument is not really rocket science, and most of the secrets in building were being revealed in the pass several decades. The truth is, there’s not that much of secret, building things precisely, carefully, with musicians in mind on what/how they need and how an instrument can possibly help would be the key.

Here comes a bass built locally from Toronto by Chris Seldon(Chris Seldon Guitars / aka Owl Bass) and here’s some thoughts of mine to share.

  • Alleva Coppolo KBP5 CS

Another personal bass of mine. My 2nd kbp5, a Classic Supreme in Plum Crazy finish.  and this will most likely be with me for the next short while .

  • Fender Custom Shop 62' Precision Bass (1990)

CBS sold the right to the Fender brand in 1984 and that was the end of the era, Fender later became Fender Musical Instruments Corp (FMIC). And soon after the Custom Shop was formed in 1987 starting with 2 master builders to start their high-end boutique product line and had great success til these days.

  • Sadowsky NYC PJ 5-20

For a very long time, Sadowsky had been well known for being the most practical, efficient instrument praised by all the pro-gigging musicians all over the world. They are seen on all the main stream stages delivering great focus sound night after night.  Roger surely knows his art in modern music.

  • Alleva Coppolo LG5 Classic Supreme

Myself had always been a fan of Alleva Coppolo basses.  Got obsessed years ago when I first try one and I've never looked back.  This is the instrument that ended my first stage of fancy bass adventure and decide to sit down and practice more;  Soon after the 2nd season started, of course to out beat a Coppolo bass, you'll need more Coppolo basses ..   lol ..

  • EBMM Reflex 4H

Few years after the first appearance of the Bongo bass, Musicman released the 25th Anniversary basses in 2009 inheriting the 4 band EQ, and put a few push buttons on top plus a passive tone knob as a bonus ! It was another innovative design since the 80s’ imo after a bunch of weird stuffs .. and looked like EBMM had made a decent success with the 25 Anniversary instruments and decided to put them into production in 2010 given the name Reflex.

  • Rob Allen Mouse 30 Fretless

They're some luthiers who had been focusing what they've doing and follow the same vision for decades, Rob Allen has been one of them who builds very musical semi-hollow body basses that are loved by many bass players world wide.  I’m lucky enough to play the little mouse not long after its bigger brother MB2, they are similar in many way and here’s some little facts between the 2.

  • Spector Euro 5 LX

Soon after Musicman Stingray was introduced in the mid-late 70s, active bass had become the new fasion when it comes to electric bass design. High output, active EQ . Stuart Spector probably built basses that represents this thick, puchy to hell the best. that is a very distinct sound for 80s

  • EBMM - 19' Stingray Short Scale

My last time buying a new bass from local music store was around 12 years ago, and in the past 10+ years, I’ve never decided to buy a new bass on the spot, on the first sight, unless it’s a crazy deal on something used. For a very long time, I think I’m somehow logical on making a purchase. Until this past weekend....

  • Fodera Emperor 5 Standard

Here's comes a fancy one; the Fodera Emperor 5 Standard bass.

Fodera has been building high end fancy electric basses (and now guitar) for over 30 years and to me their level of craftsmanship is simply the highest in the industry. And in about 2013-2014, they've incorporated more machineries in their production flow and were able to build more quality basses in a larger quantity, that's the time where these Standard line comes in the market. This Emperor 5 Standard is
